For the past few days, I have been recording a set of five songs. I am extremely excited about them because in many ways, they are the most aggressive pieces I have ever recorded. They will be released as videos starting hopefully the end of next month.

I am giving away one of my cheats. This was a picture of my piano last night at 1:00 am.

The song I was recording is very technical (for me). It has lots of fast octave passages and to be honest, I struggle with them. My problem is the 4th finger which does not stay out of the way, and ghost notes. Strangely, this problem is only in my dominant right hand. When I go back and listen, I hear hints of those extra notes.

The red felt you see (a tuning felt) is preventing the B natural from being played when I hit a C octave in a certain run. Basically, I just had to record those four bars with the felt in place and then splice them into the recording.

Yes, that is a big cheat and yes, I can do it only because technology allows it –and then only in the studio. I have little defense; but in my defense, I am far from the only one that does such things. : )

Just being transparent…

    I think that is absolutely hilarious………how creative!!😊
Technology allows for perfection! Is that akin to vocalists having their pitch tweaked?

Well sure, and I can tell you that it is not uncommon for engineers to tune well more than half of a professional singer’s notes on a recording. It is apparently very hard to stay on pitch in a studio environment when it counts.
